I have to admit I'm not very mechanically inclined. I've got a 1960 bus with 40hp motor. She starts up fine but after the automatic choke shuts down she stalls? I can keep it running by giving it gas but once I let up on the pedal it stalls again? Is this a common problem that is easy to fix? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Vito.

I could be a great number of things....
Was it running okay then all of a sudden it started doing this??? Does it run good except at idle, or does it do the hurky jerky when you feather back on the throttle??
If it jerks around, I would look at the pilot jet in the carb ( a good easy place to start anyway....) it is a brass jet screwed into the right side of the carb behind the choke area an just under the top of the carb... it can be removed with an 8mm or 5/16 wrench or small socket, and some have a slot for a screwdriver blade as well....
Pull it out and make sure it does not have a piece of crap blocking the hole in the end of it, DO NOT overtighten it when you put it back, it is a JET..... Let us know more after that???? could still be....????? other things....

Thanks for the reply! I sould mention that it has been sitting for 2 years. Last night I used some carb cleaner spray and it does stay running a little better but it eventually stalls again. I will try on the Pilot Jet tonight.

Thanks Vito.

We have the same problem with our 1960 bus (dual port 1600cc)engine. We exchanged the generator, after the engine didn't start up again and the battery wasn't charged. Now it starts, but its not possible to keep it running. Carburator seems ok, what else could it be (sad thing is, that is was running perfectly the first time we started it after the generator was exchanged). Next day it died. Does anyone know? Thanks, Helga
