Hey guys, My 71 super with a 1600dp recently made the trip from Fresno to Sacramento and back about 400mi round trip with no problems what so ever.. Since then I have changed my 009 distributor to a vac advanced 050 with electronic points.. I timed it by ear, because I no longer have a timing gun.. Now, This weekend, I took a trip up to modesto, wich is about 95mi. on the way up, I expirienced a bit of bogging in the ecceleration and slightly low psi.. that was there. On the way back, I had got about 10mi befor there was about 28psi as Im flooring it, and the ecceleration is sputtering and hitting flat spots.. anybody have any Ideas? Think its too advanced, Over heating and thinning oil? or bearings?.. whats the Pro's Takes???

Time it!!! your oil psi is more then likely A result of the timing cosing the motor to run hot and thining out the oil.

So, Timing was 10 degres advanced, moved it to 4 degres retarded.. Valves were way out of adjustment, set em to .006, oil level was high, got that evened out.. now I hope I dont run into this problem again, or its going to be my Main Bearings.. :O an we dont want that, now, do we...

@Bugnut, It says Bosh 050, vac advance and retard, w electronic points..

You could have gone to any FLAPS and picked one up before driving 95 miles on it... Static timing light is better than nothing...

Valves were out because you overheated it. How much oil is too much? It should have blown itself out by the time you got 95 miles on it... Is your case properly vented?

Interesting... the only 050 I've ever seen was purely mechanical advance.
