just kidding about the baha thing.. Laughing

Introduced as her "pretzel" window beetle by the og #1 owner to myself was this 10/12G "11g" og 3 fold 52' deluxe.

She was a older German woman who bought the car new in Berlin Germany and brought it back with her and her husband when they moved to the states after her husbands military tour ended.

They happened to move to my home town of Keokuk, Iowa.

When we found the car is was in a garage on the Bluff overlooking the mississippi river right above the massive hydroelectric dam/ lock 19

The entire rear half of the garage floor had given way and the only thing keeping the split from literally rolling off a cliff and falling hundreds of feet to its death was just a few dinky boards jammed under it.
i wish i would have taken more pictures of the excavation process, its really incredible the car was still suspended and even more so that we were able to get it out of the garage without incedent.

Wow, great find and some cool parts too. Did you check the engine number? There are a lot of 36hp parts on that engine (I don't think that is a 383 dist), but the core is probably 25hp.

What are you plans (besides the Baha tilt front end?? Wink )

it's a 25. No bump outs on the head tin for the longer head studs.

Nice find.

that's a cool car. i was really excited to see the pics because that car was "found" right after i bought my '51.

most of the pics above are over 6 months old and were posted in the gallery last year. there were a few "what are these" threads about some of the parts:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=377440
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=376601

the car was also listed in the classifieds for sale/trade late last year, and that bummed me out.

i sent a few PM's about some of the parts in the pics and got a story about the "purchase price" of the car. pretty wild story.

what is the current condition of the car?

For now im just going to get it moved out to where i live now in western nebraska, and i work in a very good body shop, so im going to take advantage of that when the time is appropriate, and take it in
for what it needs. its very solid, but it will need some repair right where the heater channel meets the a pillar on the passenger side of the car. as well as a small strip of steel at the right of the battery tray.

Im seeking the correct bumpers, tailights, and three or four more 16" wheels i only have one.

Im going to retain the orginal drivetrain, but i might lower the car and set the orginal beam safely to the side. I may keep it stock height as well, theres
deffenitly a nastalgic feeling about this car that you dont get from a later vw.

unfortunatly not. It was a surreal afternoon, Not as organized and documented as it should have been.

correct. It was posted before, It was myself and two freinds who found the car and one of them beat me to the punch, He aquired the ownership of car
while i was to care for it. he wasnt capable of giving the car the attention it needs, so i talked him into cosidering selling it and getting a nice finished car.
I wanted the car for myself. but I wasnt able to buy it at the time he wanted to sell it. so i posted it on here for him. He changed his mind again and desided to
keep it once again, and just recently we worked out a deal and the split is finally going to get the attention it needs. or at least the best i can provide.
which is deffenitly more fitting then its treatment over the last several years.

as for its current condition, Its as pictured in the last three pictures. its been moved to another building and thats about it.

I currently do not have a garage where i moved so its to stay at my parents in iowa untill i find something out here suitable.

Btw, the extra parts shown above are availible. I dont have much to spend on parts, so i would like to sell or trade the things i dont need to keep for the split for things i dont have

Correct tailights,
ribbed bumpers,
three or four 16" wheels
nos windshield seal
ribbed aluminum trim. I need all 16 peices, as well as one running board strip.
correct voltage regulator
correct coil
nos or nice restored fuel pump
engine wiring harness.

front seat upolstery.

I also have a beige 3 fold canvas that i would like to sell or trade for a brown canvas. It may be NOS. Im not sure how to tell.

hey thanks for clearing all that up.....just take your time, you sound you have your head in the right frame of mind to keep it real. start saving $up for those parts needed. But I think the folks here on THESAMBA will helpful you in obtaining the right peices to get it real.
is the fuel pump the same as a 36hp fuel pump? or different?
best of luck with your endevor and keep posting updates, what say you.

Would like to see the canvas. I have a beige 51 ragtop that is that color and depending on what it looks like, might be interested.
