I have looked but can't find an answer.
I have a 73 Late Bay with a 1600 TP engine.
I have a DVDA distributor, 113905205AJ and a Solex 34 PICT-3 with a base number of 325-3.
The chart that I have found says I should have a 113905205AN dizzy.
Before I have to replace 1 or the other, how important is it to exactly match these 2, or are these 2 close enough?

Cheers

From what I'm seeing, the jet sizes, timing, and all else are the same. Are you having an issue or is this for making it as stock as can be?

Hi there
Thanks for the reply.
I'm putting a Bay Window jigsaw back together, whomever took it apart wants a good poke in the eye.
I had several dizzy's and carbs with it, these, as far as I could tell were the closest match.
I don't want to rebuild the carb and then find out it won't work anyways.

You should be fine with either of those in combination. If you are concerned to that level of precision be aware that those are Beetle parts. The best Bus distributor would be a 211 905 205 Q that delivers more mechanical advance with less vacuum advance since the bus is heavier.

The 205 AJ is a good distributor but meant for a Beetle. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2127097

You would be better off with a 205 Q https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2337708

The 205 AJ and 205 Q are identical distributors except for the vacuum signal.

I think you mean 211 905 205 Q.

Are you in England and was the bus imported from the USA? Odd that it has a DVDA distributor in Europe.

Your carb base flange number says it was originally on a 1973 beetle as was the distributor. It makes me wonder if someone transplanted a bug engine into the bus.

The 205AN and that carb will work fine in your application. As mentioned, it's vacuum advance from the canister is more than the 205Q that was installed on dual port type 1 engines in the USA in 1971.

I run the 211905205Q on my 1971 bus engine. It's vacuum advance is typically 3-5° total where the 205AN can be 5-8° advance. The mechanical advance is pretty close between them.

I have both distributors for sale as well.

Hi there
Thanks for your reply.
It's a UK bus, however the po did import buses from the US. That's probably where he got the parts from. The bus had been stored here and there for last 10-15 years or so, so I guess that parts had been lost etc over time.
It looks like I will run with the set up I have now and see how it go's.
Thanks again
John
