Fitted repro hub caps to my car today, and they're noisy... they make soft tinkly noises as I drive, I can only hear it when the windows are down. I thought at first there was something loose inside one of them but nope... is this normal? does it indicate that they're going to disappear next time I get up to 100kph? (60mph )
The dented stock ones I swapped out didn't seem to make any noise at all....
pic for no reason other than to make it a more interesting thread...

My minivan and my wife's Toyota do exactly the same thing. Somehow the wheel covers, which are held on with clips, manage to move ever so slightly when the wheels are turning and they make funny little creaking noises. Haven't had a wheel cover come off yet. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

I have a 67 with repop hubcaps and it does the same thing. I especially notice it slowing down to a stop light/sign. I have pulled over and pulled the cap and the sound goes away. I have switched caps and the sound continues on the same wheel. Could I have a wheel out of round slightly? I have not had the two back wheels replaced or balanced (the back right is where it's coming from). |

My late Type 3 has a loose one. I find it can rotate, but if I spin it far enough, it finds a spot that sticks. It's almost certainly the cap, not the wheel. Prudent bending with a rubber mallot or cushioned pliers may make it fit tightly. |

Did you make sure you put the didn't put the front ones on the back and vice versa? _________________ 67 Type 1 : Driving Project born Sep 66
