I have some leaky seals on my 66 bus.
How do I install the glass and seals?
Im thinking you could put the seal on the van then the glass into the seal, or the seal onto the glass then get it on the van somehow.
I am I close? |

To get your window out without breaking it cut the old seal.
the glass must be placed in the rubber first. place rubber seam at top
a string or wire is then placed in the outside channel around the rubber seal. I usually go around twice, leaving ends of cord exposed and crossed at bottom of wiindow
Place the window flush against the vehicle.
from the inside pull the wire into the vehicle so that the rubber lip covers the pinch weld.
My description probably only helps if you already know what you are doing.
seach I know there will be a better description on these forums.
If you don't want to risk it I know my local glass shop will do that for about $50 a side.

I put the seals on the glass, cleaned the metal real good, then sprayed the metal and rubber with window cleaner. The window cleaner is slippery ans basically evaporates when you are done leaving no mess. for the cord I used yellow marking line the stuff usually seen when brick layers are laying each course it is a twisted line that is smooth to the touch. I put the line inside the lip of the rubber where the metal window frame will end up. I only went around once and overlapped a few inches. I had no help just pushed the glass in the frame it will hold itself then while sitting in the seat I reached around the front of the glass applying pressure and started pulling the string. No special angles just nice and slow when it binds up adjust the angle so the string pulls easily. It is so basic I did it my first time perfect by myself (a helper would be nice). After I was done a little pushing on the glass near the edges and it seated in nice. good luck _________________ April 3rd 62 standard mgr/pw

The Wolfsburg West $3 DVD has a great video on how to do it. If you order your seals from them order the DVD too. Also has a good video on installing seat covers to make them look factory installed. _________________ 1967 VW Double Cab Pickup

All you need to do is put your glass in the seal.Put an absurd length of weed eater twine in your seal. Get some dawn soap and being generous, coat your seal all around. Put window into place, carefully push while a helper if need be pulls the twine so the inner seal sucks over the inner lip. should take you about 10mins a window once you develop the feel of it. As with most things, take your time and pay attention. Good luck! |
