Hi all,
I am having BIG problems understanding how many of each spare part I need to buy in order to get the door scraper, felt, clips and anti-rattle plugs up and running. Ok I have the door in front of me but it really not makes sense when I compare with what different companies on the net say. 1. They are not all saying the same 2. It does not go in-line with my findings I really hope you can help me with this.
Ok so it’s a 1970 (model year) Karmann Ghia Coupé. According the VIN# it’s from august 1969.
So here we go…
1. How many felt scrapers do I need per door? Some say one, others say two.
2. How many felt scraper clips do I need per door? Seven?
3. How many outside rubber scraper clips do I need per door? Five?
4. How many anti rattle plugs per door do I need? Some say seven others say two. And I would say four at the top of the door outside window side. But where is the rest if there is supposed to be seven?
And finally, I understand that you can replace the outside scraper without removing the door glass. But do I need to get it out to replace the felt scraper and rattle plugs? Or can I just loosen the window and let it drop lower in the door kind of?
Comments please...

The KGP&R catalog mentions a VIN split (in 1970) for the
anti-rattle grommets. Prior to 1402306119 takes (7) per door
and after that VIN, only (2) per door.
Felt strips also show a VIN split @ 1402306120, could be one or two,
depending on your VIN.
Each felt strip takes (7) clips to install.
Outside scraper trim takes (5) clips per door to install.
Yes, gently drop the glass to the door bottom and the
install will go much easier. Just make sure to paint mark
the position of the glass in the regulator if it fits fine now,
or you'll have to re-adjust everything later.
HTH some. _________________ ****************************

Thanks a lot… No there yet but a bit further down the road at least =)
Ok, then I must buy seven anti-rattle grommets… I can only find four of the window outside. Are the other three against the window inside? Perhaps below the felt strip (as I can’t see them)?
I have a lower number than 1402306120 so does that then mean one felt per door?

(1) per door, if earlier than that VIN

|
|
I'm after some advise as to wether I need one or two door felts per door and where they fit.
I'm building my doors up (I didn't strip them they were like that when I bought the car !) and having read the previous posts I think I need two door felts per door as my chassis number is 1412435..., but where do they both go ?
I've got one with a thin chrome strip that I've fitted to the outer face of the gap where the glass goes and I've two anti rattle pads in opposite this. I can see more holes just above the anti rattle pads on the inside face is this where I should be fitting the second felt ?
Also if it should have two per door are they the same ?
Sorry for all the questions but just trying to get it right.
Thanks in advance for any help.
