I have a 1967 beetle and i putting new trim clips on the running board. I got these ones from wolfsburg west: http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=113853559A and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the buggers on. the clips that were on in were plastic and were just pushed into the holes in the running board. The new ones are metal and have a tapered piece that are too big for the hole in the board.

Sounds like you have aftermarket running boards, some used the plastic clip rather than the metal one. Make new slots for the clips?

I wondered if that was the case. how were they held into the running board originally? did they have a rubber boot like the inside door panels?

They just had slots for the tang to go into and it was twisted. No boot.

Pardon the rust. The holes were rectangular in shape. You just give the clip a twist so that it holds tight. I think there are maybe 5 or 6 on each side.[img]
