Help! Building a 4 inch narrowed beam! How much do I need to narrow the torsion leaves? How far in do I dimple the leaves?

Well... if you're narrowing by 4" then you will simply be taking 1/2 the length removed from from the beam from each side of the leaves, or... 2" from each side...

And take note of what you actually cut... you say 4" but many forget the width of the cutting wheel... If that took an extra 1/8" of material from the beam and not accommodated prior to cutting anything then the dimension will change. So be sure to allow for that as well...

For the dimple, after cutting the leaves, clamp them all together and use a steel counter sink on a drill press on slow speed and use alot of cutting lube (WD works great) and slowly cut the dimples... And try not to over heat them or they'll harden & lose their temper and will get brittle and can snap or crack when you go to tighten them up at re-installation...
