Owned my 87 syncro since 88, havent driven it in years,always experienced the "mysterious miss "problem VW service guys called it had several of the fixes but just never got rid of it completely, was that ever cured?
also had a high idle problem. On my 2 ond engine, first 1 Idid the heads twice them 3 time looked like head stud corrsion so got a short block. runs/ran fine other then those issues.
also looking for the heated mirror glass pass side, and drop links to the sway bar.

You can run a Digitool to diagnose the missing issue.
Build one or VanCafe rents them...real time saver. |

If that miss fits the usual description of the 'Vanagon Syndrome' then yes, a $1 fix is readily available.
