|
|
I have a 2 liter type 4 engine from a 76 Bus. I replaced the motor on the bus and pulled this one, no fuel injection, complete tin, alternator, clutch and flywheel. It had good oil pressure but had a lot of crankcase blow by and tail pipe blue smoke. was running with a carburator.
What is it worth?
Is it better to strip and sell parts separatly?
It's in Idaho
Thanks
Glen

I wouldn't strip it. It is probably worth something as a rebuildable core, and it will need all those parts again once it is ready to live another life. _________________ John

I'd try here first before you strip it.

I imagine it's a lot like a bus: You'll always make a bit more on tearing it down , parting and then scrapping the left overs. However, its nice to be able to pass it along all together (and good karma to atleast try) |

IMHO once you sell 1 peice off the engine you have a bunch of stuff to sell, and pack up and sell and pack up...get the idea! keep it whole and tell a few people about it and sell it where is ..then you arn't delivering it _________________ 63 two fold rag

Hmmm.... tough call, a whole engine is harder to sell as it's pretty much a local pick up only deal unless the buyer is willing to pay for crating on a pallet and truck freight, possible on a good known runner, not so much on what's essentially a core.
Parting it out will likely generate more funds than the unit and little parts that ship from the post office do sell, but what is your time worth?, and you still end up with some leftovers no matter how creatively you market them.
I see an exhaust system, alternator, late crank and case as well as some 2 year only tin, I'd part it myself. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Hang onto it as spare and rebuild it at your leisure.
If you must sell it, the big parts are hard to ship and frankly it is easier to protect a crank, rods, flywheel etc on an engine than apart. People pallet and ship motors all the time.
It appears to be a 2.0. Ask $500 - $600 for it. Also put your city as well as Idaho because some areas aren't that far from places like Spokane etc. There are parts of Idaho that we would drive to for a rebuildable engine if we needed one and other parts that are too far. _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |
