So I picked up a '66 and i have a slew of mechanics to help, but I want to try this issue on my own. For some reason when the fuse panel was replaced it screwed up the headlights. When I turn on he lights I have no rear right tail light unless I turn on the high beam. Im assuming they are crossed. The front right is high when switched to low and vice versa. Im completely lost when viewing the diagrams and such. Can someone help?
Here is a link to the picture.

Thanks in advance. |

The fuse block in your picture is the main problem. Looked at the WW catalog, yours looks like this one, which is for a Bus...

But it should look like this...

Compare how they look and find the difference. See where there are three sets of terminal bridged together? Note the part numbers are nearly the same. Someone made a mistake getting parts when it was replaced.
There would be no way to ever wire it correctly. Until you get them straightened out, there is no way to guide you any further.
The terminals will pull out of the fuse block from the back with pliers. You could reconfigure them to match the Beetle WD. Or, you could just buy a new correct one from WW.
You or someone with electrical experience is going to have to learn how to use this...

With that done, then it is simple color match the wires to the proper terminals according to the diagram. _________________ -Bruce

Thanks... Looks like my husband will have to do it then since he can read wiring diagrams in his sleep.
As for the fuse block I found the box in the trunk and it says 65-66 type 1.... Hmmm.
Thanks again!

Thanks for all the suggestions. In the end my husband used the existing fuse box and wired it to work. No modifications needed... Just him and his flux meter.
I guess I'll leave the work to him. |
