|
This is the start of the thread, I've only posted it since the title is in hand now. Its a 1959 Ragtop that was purchased in Belgium and brought back over to the US. It was driven some but has been parked for 20 years now by the og owner. Till now,.... I couldn't get off work and its been a hard thing to get a deal struck on it, but as soon as there was a deal we didn't want to waist time getting it home. I'll post a few teaser shot till tonight.

Take numerous before and after pictures. Semaphores are way cool but expensive. Keep it stock as a rock and enjoy the ride. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Its going to be my Dads car, but we are going to work on it together. Hes never had a VW guess seeing mine has made him want something to work on. Did I mention we are the second owners of the car The plan is to keep it stock so don't worry about that. I've had lowered stuff before its fun, but stock is just such a better ride. I'm hoping he got alot of pictures of them getting it out. Was not in a good place, the barn was a more of a tin shed and it was on its way out.
It had fallen in behind the car, there is also a tree that has to be removed before it could be pulled out. So not that fun, super glad my brother got to go with him. I still wish I could have been there, the removal is a really fun experience. _________________ Jonathan

I agree with Vintagevolks the story behind the find is always interesting to read.
And with the rat crap... bleach water in a bottle spray it down and then vaccuum it out...avoids the deadly Hanta virus.

Word of mouth, one of my customers when worked at the parts store told me about it. Helped me chase it down, gave the lady my phone number. Its one of those things where the timing was perfect, she wasn't going to sell was going to give it to her son until he said some things to her that were not to nice as she put it.
I'm really glad we got it, can't wait to start working on it with my Dad. He's lurking thesamba as I type reading things about the car.
So now with the questions, how do you unstick a semaphore. One of them will not come out. _________________ Jonathan

How to unstick a semaphore? Very carefully. Remember they are expensive. You may have to rebuild them. Have you tried applying 6V to the wiring...http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/bug_58.jpg
After all those years it maybe suffering from rustosis. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Hi, I'm youbugme2's dad.
This car was a job to get out but well worth it.
My plans are to do a pan off restoration and put it back as close to original as possible and document everything as we go. This is not the original color. It was beige or tan, not sure what color I'm going to go with yet. Got a long way to go before that bridge. |

Almost forgot, the Tag on it is 1983 so it has been sitting for around 28 or 29 years. It's amazing how good a shape this car is in considering. |
