anyone done this? Ive seen it done on type 2, but any early type 1? I made it so the fenders and doors can be left on during cancer removal |

Great idea!
Looks very useful and practical to me since the body shell isn't so heavy. Only problem I guess is if you actually have cancer issues at the rear body mounts in the first place. (Very common here in Scandinavia...) Any other proposals for mounting the rear end? |

I've been considering different "rotational" approaches to do my '51, but I keep thinking that the benefit is minimal and interior bracing still needs to be done if removing heater channels and the sheet metal on under the back seat area. I think I will carefully brace the interior dimensions of mine and then use padding, blankets and old tires in the shop and just lay it on its side when needed. _________________ John Henry

heres what i did for my oval, I copied and pasted this from my thread on the airriders website.
http://www.airriders.ca/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19448&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
So built the cart this morning, turned out awesome! going to make a few modifications next week so I can bolt it to the front and rear body mounts, depending on what part of the car youre working on.
slotted the plates so they could be mounted between other heater channel nuts.
Flat
60degrees
90degrees
worked on the cart and finished it all up. First thing i did was weld some collars onto the arms so they wont go in to far and hit the tires.
Then I cut some plate and made the rear body mount "adapters"
Then made a few pieces and welded it on the front bar so it can bolt onto the body mounts in the front. You can also see the tube that slides to brace the cart.
And this is the tube brace on the rear piece. Also made T handles so its all easy to do.

those octogon units work ok. Have a 62 dc on one right now, but its a pain trying to move it around.
type 2's obviously have better places to bolt onto as well, so no need to move the mounting points around like you have to on a beetle. |
