We have a 1999 Mexican Beetle Open Air Model, the engine is toast, it is making metal and we are looking for suggestions on how to replace, it has fuel injection and electronic ignition all computerized like a modern car. It also has a magnesium block, does it need to be replaced with same block? Thanks for any help and suggestions.Confused

I suggest posting on the Mexican Beetle thread, more details may help diagnose your problem. There have been others who have converted their engine to carb.

Working FI parts may be worth something, so don't toss them.

I seriously doubt the EFI is causing the problem. It's more likely an internal mechanical issue. Keep the modern engine controls, no carb conversion will make it as weather and driver friendly.
