The divider bars between the window and the wing window on my 54 are in bad shape, most of the chrome is gone and they are badly pitted.
Does anyone make a new one for 55 and earlier cars? It's the last piece I need to start putting my doors together, I know Wolfsburg West makes them for 56-64 but they are shorter.
Thanks for anything! |

… the ones on my '54 were in a similar condition, as yours seem to be - I scraped mine down and painted them silver and put it all together - just did not put the door cards on just yet - continued to look in thesamba classifieds for nicer ribbed door vent posts and bought a couple, finally, after some time - and kept those old ones in my stash - will be glad I kept 'em some day, down the road - not a real easy part to find - just clean yours up, use 'em and keep lookin' - have fun - z _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

I bought a '54 in the 90's and it came with a NOS set. I sold one of the old pitted ones to a guy who had it sent to a chrome shop and they filled in all of the pits and replated it. It looked like it was new. That is probably going to be your best bet because NOS ones are very hard to find. _________________ Chris

You can modify the later models to fit...involves welding a bracket on them to mount to the door. Luckily this is all hidden by the door panel
I wish I had a picture to show you, but it’s pretty straight forward
Or have yours replated as said above |

… eek- I know I would not like my chrome to look new - not on a 65 year old car - pitted chrome or silver-paint is perfect for me - a much more natural-look - not trying to discredit splitjunkie, at all - just different opinion - z _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

It's been a couple years since this post, any chance there's a company now making reproduction ones? Mine are very pitted and I even kinked it slightly removing it (everything was very seized!). Would be great to buy a replacement. |

Mine were pitted up too. I pulled them out and sent them to Bob Koch he had them triple chrome plated along with the vent wing frames, the little tab the lock catches and the little ‘Nike Swoosh’ at the bottom. He even put new vent wing lock assemblies onto the frames for me. Took about 3 weeks and he shipped them back to me. They turned out beautiful. _________________ GFK

bringing this back to life one more time..
So the early dividers are hard to find in decent shape, and chrome plating is terribly expensive now
I am looking at taking a set of the later 56-64 reproduction bars, and changing the brackets that secure the bottom to the door. Should be fine, except the the early bars are about 4-5 inches longer than the later bars. Do they need to be? It doesn't seem like the early windows wind farther down into the doors, so having a longer track isn't necessary, right?
I could pull the panel off the 55 here to look and see, but I really don't want to mess with it if I don't have to..
