I'm looking for pics and specs on a roof rack for a baja. I would like to put 3 or 4 HID's in the front and a spare front tire up top as well. My car has a roll cage so I will be mounting to that.
I'm looking for width, length, degree of bends, etc. What did you do to seal the car from the outside elements mounts wise? Do you think the rails should wrap the spare tire or will a bar underneath for support be fine?[/img] |

Here are a couple pics of mine, mounted to the cage
I used a bead of silicone around the roof holes to keep water and dirt out. Also the wires on the lights can be unplugged for when the rack comes off |

Hey thext94,
I really like your roof rack. Who built it for you? If you wouldnt mind could you give me some specs on your rack? Length, width, height, also if possible the degree of the bend? Thanks much.
The class 11 car is way cool. Would be nice to have that as a DD. That roof rack wouldn't be sturdy enough for my car though. I've got a prerunner/chase car that will be driven pretty hard. I like the look and simplicity of attachment though.

| The car is in Arizona right now, but I'll PM you those measurements as soon as I go back (possibly next week). My neighbor races his buggy in the BITD races so I drew up what I wanted and he built it up for me. I'll get you that info as soon as I can |

This is currently on my sills, but will be cut and tied in straight to the roll cage when complete (similar to Thext94's and K-B's set up). It is 33" wide (don't plan on ever running anything larger then a 32" tire), 48" long and 4" high. Have an opening for my moonroof that can be covered to carry more, lights are easily adjusted together, tools are tightened down securely and plenty of tie-down spots. Measure twice, cut ones.

Dang Im diggin your rack muttley. Lots of option to hold stuff down and plenty of carrying space too.
I have a regular zvw roof rack for carrying equip. I also have a Yakima high rise for bikes that I can swap in when I want to go biking.
They get put to shame tough compared to everyone else's in this thread.
BTW, Where do you guys get the foam bumper pads for your racks? I want to get some of those so I can carry my snowboard and other long cumbersome objects. Thanks _________________ 1972 Standard Beetle 1600dp Class 11 Look-alike....SOLD !

I have a couple pairs for surfboards on my Trailblazer, I'm sure you could find them at any surf shop. It might be cheaper to buy some of that foam tubing stuff and slide it on there instead of the special ones though. Just an idea |

True about the foam, That is what I was going to do if I couldn't find some of those. Ill check around some surf shops for pricing.

I just started building a rack. For measurments, i can tell you the drip rail is ~45" apart at the B pillar. Further forwards and backwards, it gets skinnier.
I used 3/4" EMT conduit. I know, i know. "But that stuff is hella thin walled satelightguy" Yeah, and despite the fact that the rack is at its bear minimum, it can still hold my 180# ass.

Saw your car for sale on RDC. How much do you like the roof rack? Willing to sell it? |

| Nah sorry, I want to hold onto it. The car is mainly up there to feel out what it can sell for. I'm going to need a truck for college, but not desperate yet. Thank you for the offer though |

Same. I got my yak rack setup for half price, pretty much the only way it was worth it. I only plan on keeping my spare on top, all other tools are behind the seats, so it caries a slightly lighter load. It's worked well for my needs.
