I'll be there, I only live 5 minutes away from the track. You might want to get up with the guys coming from Richmond. You might be able to meet up with them and at least caravan from there up.

I'm like 5 minutes from the Speedway. That Bolivian Festival must be getting really popular at the Fairgrounds. 234 was backed up from Hastings, so I went around and tried to get in from the other way after Godwin Dr and it was just as bad. This was like at 11:00 a.m. I gave up and came home. I figured it would have been at least 45 minutes to get parked sitting in all of that traffic mess. It wasn't like that last year for the Labor Day show. And that festival was still going strong at 8:00pm last night, I could hear the loudspeakers coming from the fairgrounds. Next year I plan to be there at 9:00 am sharp. _________________ '66 Beetle

| I thought the show, swap and general crowd were smaller then average. Nice day, good people, but the show overall wasn't good. |

This show hasn't been good for years. Strip has been voted worst on East coast, and facilities in general, very bad. There is a need for a change of venue but Les isn't interested in making a move, so this will continue to fail. Rockingham and Mocksville are a great example of success and hard work. I would support a "new" Bugout if it ever moves, but as the last poster complained of the "Bolivian" problem, coupled with bad facilities and great events in North Carolina, why bother with this garbage pit. |

The fall show always has a smaller turnout than the spring show historically. The spring show had a good turnout this year and was far from a failure. So much so that they were turning cars away because there was no space. Obviously you small group of haters are in the minority. Also, Jody '71 was just commenting on the amount of people that were at the Bolivian festival and how that event has grown. He never said that he "would never be back" or "this show sucks", he actually said that he would be there next year, just earlier. I wouldn't consider it a "problem".
I'm tired of people coming on here and bashing this event. Are there some things that could be improved? Of course. But I have been to Rockingham, Farmington and Greenboro as well and I can tell you these shows are not perfect either. I used to go to North vs South at Darlington as well back when they had it. Want me to get started on that one?
Bottom line, if you don't like the BugOut, don't come to it or waste your time to post about it. It is what it is. _________________ Jeff

| This was my first bugout so it wasn't to awful bad. I got to see some really nice dubs that gave me inspiration for my piece. I will say that my girl did have a bit of an issue with parking due to the Bolivian festival but it wasn't to bad. I enjoyed the show since I got to see 2split windows, one with alot of accessories and the other was rhd with a Judson on it. Not to mention the turbo rag from Maryland that was fetaured in hotvws. I will defiantly go next year but I will get a hotel room for that Saturday night cuz the 3 hr drive was hard on the bug. I will say that there were alot of waterpumpers there though, most looked nice but just not my thing. All in all I didn't have a bad experience. |

Glad you had a good time at your first bugout. Be sure to make the Spring show in May, better turnout and a lot more cars to see.
Btw, the rhd split was mine. The accessorized split was my friend Donny's. Glad you liked them. _________________ Jeff

Your split was one of my favorites out there. It was my first time seeing one up close and it being rhd and Judson powered made the 3 hr trip worth it. I'm defiantly goin to the spring show. So look forward to seeing the ugly duck there with some new work done to it. |

The Bolivian festival and the parking/traffic was not what bothered me about BugOut 70. It was my fault for not leaving earlier. As I stated earlier, next year I will plan accordingly. As mentioned, the Memorial Day BugOut usually is a better show. But both BugOuts are always great IMO. I have been going to them for the past 10 years at least. I've never been to any other vintage VW shows so I have nothing to compare the BugOuts to, except one time back in '04 I went to the Carlisle show for imports. I do like the BugOuts. _________________ '66 Beetle

Mine was the blue 65 slammed on black steelies with the gangster duck painted on the deck lid. It was in the right field as you enter the grounds in between a red 67 and an army lookin bug. Your split is my absolute dream car. I have it as my wall paper on my ipod and computer. |

To rillaRe above.... Thanks for taking all the pictures and posting them on here. I rearly get to see any show cars . I spend all my time in the race pits keeping my Car ready to go. I have the Orange Turbo car on Page 16.
I thought the whole event ran really well. The track was in great shape . Special thanks to the Whole Crew . They were on the ball all day long. The whole event was smaller than I remember but , Considering the Economy and all the latest Hurricane issues last week there was still a great turn out. To the Few that were complaining about the show, Be thankful you were able to attend. Im sure there were many fellow VW families that wanted to go but couldn't because of flooding and other hardships.
