Pull the black plastic part out, towards you. Then it will be obvious how the triangular diaphragm comes out, will simply pull out once its rod is disengaged. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. That is the problem the Bakelite part is stuck in housing . I use dental picks and cleaner to make sure there was nothing to keep it in . Gave it a few nice sharp smacks on a flat piece of wood bench . Not budging!!! Scared I will break it by prying on it . |

Try squirting a little penetrating oil (PB Blaster, WD40, etc.) around the plastic insert, then try it again.
You can also try applying a little heat around the aluminum housing (not with penetrating oil around though). Not too much...you just need to expand the diameter a few thousands of an inch to loosen up the insert.
If the insert breaks, it probably wouldn't be too much trouble coming up with a replacement...even if you had to buy some junk carb for a few bucks to get it. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

Maybe someone super-glued or epoxied it in. So it could break, but can't be too much to obtain. I'd guess that [email protected] would have several hundred. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Put the choke unit back in and tap around the edges of the carburetor choke housing to make it rounder again. Over time the heat from the choke and the pull from the choke screws distorts the housing. _________________ http://volkzbitz.com

Super glue and bakelite (phenolics?) go really well together, good as new if you do it right. |
