We are leaving for our 2-1/2 week / 4000 mile roadtrip in Chewey to the PNW next Tuesday. We are starting in Port Ludlow, WA, / Seattle then camping on a commune in Orcas island for a couple of nights. One night at Kalaloch in the Olympic NP then down to Astoria / Lincoln City / Newport for a few days on the beach. A couple of nights in Portland then back to Colorado. I personally think the highlight of the trip will be Rock Springs, Wyoming. If you see Chewey on the road / in the campground, be sure to stop for a friendly chat & a cup of coffee / beer depending upon the time of the day.

As a Wyomingite, I hope that you have a better trip than that.
Although, if you are there...go here - http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/324/1326822/restaurant/Wyoming/Bonsai-Rock-Springs
We stop whenever we find ourselves in RS. _________________ '73 Thing

LOL, if you're going that way, Danong's Thai restaraunt and the oriental market in Rawlins is actually worth a stop (honestly, I'm not kidding at all).
Enjoy your trip! _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

I've found Rock Springs to be a great launching point for running down the west side of the Flaming Gorge.....

- Will definitely try the Thai restuarant in Rawlins....thanks for the tip! Be a good stop between Fort Fun & Salt Lick.
- A sushi resuarant in Rock Springs, Wyoming? Sacrilege. Will have to stop there on the way back....thanks!
- Here a link to the Audi Fuch wheels writeup that I posted. I absolutely love the wheels and am really glad that I was lucky enough to find them. Yes, I run spacers, I think 14mm. I bought all extraneous hardware from Christopher Shimke. His expertise & advice was invaluable.

- Fog lamps in the grille were wicked cheap & easy. Hacksaw & Krylon....my two favorite tools. Here's a link.

- Yep, commune is just past the State Park. Gonna get my freak on.....in moderation. If you see a wookie running around with no clothes on at 2am, it's me. Just don't tell my wife. |

That's going to be a great trip! and we are actually having summer weather out here. Van looks great, is that Merian brown? I will notice you instantly, since I have not seen any other brown vans beside mine. _________________ 86' Wolfsburg weekender 2.1, 4spd, , merian brown |

I am driving down to Washington and Orcas Island in October and will be needing a place to camp, was thinking the state park but this sounds way more interesting, what is the name of the commune? _________________ 1987 1.6 TD (JX) 1.9 TD (AAZ) Syncro Transporter Tintop with front and back lockers - Escorial Green.
