I'm going to look at a set of junk yard 1990 Miata seats tomorrow. I know I can get them reupholstered and I can find aftermarket speakers for the headrest.
Any other particular details I should look at? They will be used in a 2+2.
Thanks,

Peruse some of the Miata forums for the "foamectimy" procedure on the bottom seats. Gain a couple inches in headroom (not necessary for a buggy) but will put you in the seat a little better, rather than sitting on top of the seat. |

Thanks guys. I looked into the "foamectimy." I'll have to wait and see what kind of condition the seats are in and how they mount up to decide if it is needed.
The price is right, $100 for the pair, so my expectations of their quality is low. But like every other used part that I've used so far, I'm sure as long as the "bones" are in good shape, I can fix them up.

I had found a guy in Florida that can sell you just about any part for the seat, including used foams. I bought a set of complete foams for my seats (one back was worn, one seat was worn) for about $100. The thing about the seats are the steel supports are internal in the foam, so it's not just popping out the old and putting in the new. |

Good to know, thanks. I struck out today. I went to the junk yard that said they had them, and they only had 1 1/2 seats... Someone snagged the bottom of the passenger side and they didn't know. The driver's side and the back of the passenger were in great condition, just there wasn't a bottom for the passenger side. Grrrr.
Going to look at 2 more pairs at a different junk yard tomorrow. They said both pairs were in decent shape but will need reupholstered.
Keeping my fingers crossed again.

PM me for the info. They have complete sets, even ones with the speakers for probably what you'll pay at the yard. |

I've got two 92 Miata seats I'm planning on using in my Buggy. I cut out the miata floorpans as well and was planning to drill out the spot welds for the floor mounts and weld them to the pan (and tie the trans tunnel to the outer edge of the floorpan), then bolt the seats to the floor mounts. Test fit shows that idea won't work easily. Any thoughts on the best way to mount the seats to the floorpan, i.e. flatten the existing seat mounts that are bolted to the seat and bolt the seats directly to the floorpan, attach the seats to the buggy seat mounts/sliders available from buggy parts suppliers. Thanks |

My Miata seats are bolted directly to the pan. Sliders(Mazda) work great. _________________ Thunderbug by Bugformance 1969 |

Brian B, Thanks for the reply. Did you cut off the alignment studs on the bottom of the miata mounts? Did you add any reinforcing plate top or bottom of the floorpan under the bolt/mount points? Can you send/post any pictures of your seats/seat mounts in the buggy. Thanks |

Ditto to Vamanx's request to Brian B. for photos of his Miata seat install.
I have a pair of Miata seats, with the heardrest speakers, in excellent condition that I want ot install in my buggy. I am still unsure how I will install them so any help would be appreciated. |

I figured you would have them installed already. Your progress was going so well.... _________________ Street legal fiberglass rocket ship

I'm reviving this thread instead of starting a new one. I want to replace the fiberglass bucket seats in my buggy and have a line on a pair of really nice Miata seats with headrest speakers for $200.
My questions are for other buggy owners already using Miata seats. I'd like to know if you would use them again if you had the chance or would you look for something else, and how did you mount them to the pan?
Thanks.

I've got Miata seats and they are the best in my opinion . Very comfortable , great adjust ability and easy to install . Anyone who has driven or rode in my buggy agrees

Funny this topic came up...
I'm currently in the process of swapping over to Miata seats.
Still working through the mounting at this point. If I would have built the car with a flat floor, it would have made the install sooooo much easier . _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}
