Hi guys! New here. I have a fiberglass buggy kit with a 1970 1600cc! B motor in it. I have been driving it for about 2 years and now the engine tilts front to rear really dramatically under power and then slams back during clutching. Is this a torsion bar issue? Are there rubber mounts that have gone bad? Not really sure where to start and my searches are not yielding the type of info I am looking for. Any help is much appreciated. [/img]

The engine is bolted to the transmision which is hung from the rear of the chassis on three rubber mounts, one at the front and two at the rear under the bell housing. It sounds as if those have either split or perished and while you're underneath checking just take a look and the gearbox's front 'nose cone' as it's not unknown for these to break.

You'll need to pull the engine and move the tranny back to replace the mounts but that's an easy enough job on a Buggy.

Suggestion is to find quality rubber mounts. Not a hard job. Also, don't forget to reinstall the ground strap under the tranny.

Don't be tempted by the sets of red urethane ones available as most are horrible brittle rubbish.

Found that the bolts for the front bushing mount either fell out or broke. Bushing still looks good but will prob replace anyhow. Thanks guys. Suprised I didnt notice it on first inspection while looking for problem.

These are the best I've found and the price is reasonable, they arrive in genuine VW/Audi/Seat packaging- Just have to make sure you don't have the '73-up style motor mounts, if you do its easy to change the rear mounts back to the early style due to them being easier to find. I'm running a 73 "triangle" style mount on the nose cone with biscuit mounts in the rear on my rail, my new baja will run that Part #6161 set in the link..

These are stronger than stock mounts and not expensive.
