Your brights ought to be controlled by the signal lever. You must have a mix up in the wiring somewhere in your column. |

go to www.drivetheplanet.com , they're driving a vw from holland to china, and they're in india right now. Apparently there the right of way goes to the biggest car, or the car with the loudest horn, so they've started giving it to the locals with one of those compressed air horns! lol |

Wiggling my turn signal would make my horn beep. There was a piece of plastic inside the turn signal assembly that was cracked and causing a short of some nature. I heard that this is a common problem and I suspect that you have the same issue since the symptoms are similar.I replaced the signal assembly and the problem was solved.
Be careful when buying a replacement turn signal/brights switch as they are very year specific for the years around 1972. Count the wires.

In European cars today, the turn signal lever beeps the horn. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

the wire that operates the horn and the wire that dips the lights high/low are both brown grounds ( the one to the headilght relay should have a white stripe) it is possible someone got confused and hooked them up wrong, or you could still have other issues in the signal swithc/ steering column. |
