Some of you may remember last year when I was posting often about a VW bus I purchased and repaired to "star" in our Vietnam War era indie film "Summer of '67" . I brought it in on a trailer and 3 months later, it was running and ready to be driven by our hippie character "Van the Man". I worked on the fuel system, brakes, electrical systems and more. It was quite an experience because the last time I was into VW's was around 1977! The bus had a nice paint job and looked too good for the film. I had to "grunge it up", and ended up doing so by applying black car wax with a sponge. "Flower Power" removable graphics completed the look.
As many other TV shows and movies do, we used a late model bus despite the year being 1967. Hollywood films have no excuse as using a split window would only be a blip in their budget. For us to buy a split would have cost nearly as much as the entire film, so a bay window was the only way to go. Fortunately, outside of the Samba and gearhead world, a VW bus is a VW bus and no one would know it was the wrong year.
The movie is about 3 sailors and their girlfriends dealing with them being shipped off to war. They are stationed on the USS Forrestal, a ship that caught fire and burned for 3 days during the war. My father in law was on the ship, and that's where the story originated. When character Peter is shipped off leaving his girl behind, hippie guy "Van" moves in, transporting Kate in his derelict micro bus. It plays a major part in the film, appearing in several scenes. Along with the bus are other 60's cars, including a '66 T Bird that I already owned, a '62 Nova, '68 Camaro, '62 Impala,'65 GTO,'66 Mustang,'62 Corvair, '64 Chevy C-20, and many other era appropriate vehicles.
The movie is striking a chord with active and retired military, and others who remember or fought in the war. So far we've won 10 film festival awards and counting. Sometime tomorrow, it releases on Amazon Prime and if you have it, you can watch it for free. I'll post the link here as soon as it is available.

OK guys, here are the links- Amazon US:
https://www.amazon.com/Summer-67-Rachel-Schrey/dp/B07GWS1CV3
Amazon UK:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/detail/B07GWQ1S9J
Amazon loves reviews- and they don't have to be great ones. In fact, they are really suspicious of too many 10 star reviews or two word reviews ("well done") . So if you are able to watch the film, just rate it honestly and write a few lines, hopefully about things you like about the story. Remember that Amazon counts minutes watched. Thanks in advance for helping us out!

Linky no worky. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.
GOFUNDYOURSELF, quit asking everyone to do it for you!
An air cooled VW will make you a hoarder.
Do something, anything, to your project every day, and you will eventually complete it. |
