Who can repair them if at all? Or who has one GOOD one to sell or trade? |

What year and model?
Clock or Tach?
I have a bunch, but they are getting harder and harder to find in excellent condition.
Yes GW has a replacement as well. |

On our 82, it had sat for years with the cluster cover off in the hot Florida sun. The foil was basically dust. I purchased two 6 wire weather pack connectors and with some light gauge wire, solder gun, ohm meter, the wiring diagram, and an afternoon at the dinner table, was able to rewire the entire cluster and bypass the foil completely. That said if GW had offered one at the time, I'd have probably gone that route. I eventually won a cluster off ebay for $75 that had a tach and included the wire harness connector I had cut off with my modification. I don't see them that cheap anymore. |

I have not seen them at that price or anywhere near that in a long time.
Make sure that those with early vans call and discuss the swap with GW.
AFAIK, the replacement they sell was designed with the later vans in mind and there may be differences.
Shipping the older, used foils is the issue for me.
I prefer to sell the entire dash pod, tested and working 100% to offer a direct, factory swap.
The price is well above what many will feel is worth it.
I like having spares, with pristine plastic pods as I own so many vans. |

Had mine resoldered for $10 at a local shop that specializes in repairing cell phones. They had never done anything like that before, but did just great. Afterward, I learned from the local mechanic that they're regularly getting some fixed by another local shop, that specializes in installing sound systems. So make a few call around, and you'll find someone.
Obviously, this requires that you know what the issue is, and how you want it fixed. If you need diagnosis service as well, getting a new one is much simpler - and much more expensive.
There are multiple versions of the foil, and multiple schematics floating around. This is one: http://www.kpcnsk.com/?p=138 |

I had a damaged one and managed to solder a wire to jump the damaged area. If I had extensive damage I would go the Go Westy route |

The GW kit will work with an AC van, you just have to swap the pins around to late style. Easy to do. _________________ '90 Carat w/ '95 phase 1 EJ22 OBD2 conversion |

I repaired my foil with www.coldheat.com - I basically jumpered a bad section of the foil with a solder jumper. Delicate, but it worked for 10+ years..
If the GW kit was around, I might splurged for it, still might - it looks to be a permanent solution. My problem now, is that the speedo light socket contacts are worn out, won't be able to fix that too well. I could try rear window defrost conductive paint, but that will wear away eventually. |
