Windshield Wiper Linkage Ball Joint Disassembly

I feel stupid here but how the heck do you take apart the ball joints on a Vanagon windshield wiper linkage assembly?

I see the circlip on the wiper arm shaft but I cannot see how to get the ball joints apart to clean and re-grease. I gently pried but don't want to destroy the thing.

My searches on thesamba and www came up with lots of stuff but not how to do this one thing. You can get new parts so you ought to be able to put them back together.

It is a friction fit. I have a pair of door panel clip pliers that work for that. There is no hidden circlip.

You mean just pry it off? Are those visible parts metal or plastic. I could not tell. I guess plastic if you say to just pull it off!
