Hey all,

New to these old school VW's...Currently drive a 89 Jetta 1.6 Diesel that I am planning to swap my spare 98 TDI motor into.

Just picked up this 67 1300 euro beetle.

I need a new front beam (as you can see from a picture below the driver front is bent back), but I planned on lowering it so that works out.
I will also need new brakes as it sat for a while and one front is seized up.

It does not have OG bumpers and only the pass rear fender is og

Here are some pictures.

ordered a bunch of parts from wolfsburgwest. Smile

Got a temp front bumper cheap...its not the euro one but its from a 67 us bug. It needs some work to fit...the nose is banged up a bit.

also picked up 2 german fenders, headlight trays (need the beams) and 2.5" drop spindles from the air cooled event in Flanders, NJ this past weekend. Test fit the one fender, the driverside needs some work to fit since it was hit on this side

I pulled the gas tank and it was all rust, got a new one coming.

Here is what I dumped out...it had about an inch or so of rust in the bucket once it settled

Where can I get a 2"inch narrow beam?

oh crap and thanks...well guess im sticking with these for now until I actually do a full restore in a few months after I move and settle into a new place.

Do you know if the 67 US had the other fenders/light style?
The owner of a shop at the event I picked mine up at promised they were for a 67 and that the 67 had smaller headlights, even another lady selling parts as well said I needed the non slanted headlights. I said I had one original Bosch headlight that was slanted and they both said that was wrong...I guess the Euro and US had different parts too?

This one year thing seems to be hard to find certain parts.

Glad you were able to get some parts at the Flanders event. I was there on Sunday and got to spend a bunch if cash... $14.00 lol.
The 67 euro bug carried on with the 66 and earlier headlights. They didn't change until 68. I may have a fender for you. I'll pm you. I also have a set of headlights but they are the cheap Brazilian reproductions. I don't know how crazy will you be going with your resto.

Wish I spoke with you guys about the fenders but at least I got the German fenders for the price of brazilian ones. Dont think Ill have an issue selling these down the road.

I dont plan on going crazy right now with all original but would of liked to keep at least the correct parts on the car (bumpers, headlights, fenders, ect).

I actually wanted to get this running within next 1.5 - 2 weeks to drive as my daily for about a week or two while I do a TDI swap into my jetta. Then I planned on going back and working on the beetle some more.

FYI - would you happen to know where I can get a 2" narrow beam? and do you know if I would need to also order different torsion springs or tie rods or sway bar for narrowed beams or can I use my old stuff for now?

great....now this is really bothering me that I have the wrong fenders. I told the shop selling them and another lady that I had the slanted headlights already and they told me that was wrong.

ugh...

Just got in touch with Savich's Auto in PA who I purchased the fenders from at the Flanders event and he said he would get me the correct ones and I can exchange them.

I feel a lot better now...haha

Got lots of parts from WW.

Noticed the fuel pump is slanted and the pin is a 100mm (a little shorter then current) and the plastic flange is a bit longer then the one on the car. Am I going to have issues? It says 73+ and for 1.3 / 1.6.

Should I return it? Not sure which is correct as both are made in brazil

They told you it was wrong because they are use to U.S. model '67's and not the euro '67's that still use '66 front fenders and headlights. Also, some euro '67's had disk brakes up front which meant that those got switched to 4 lug wheels rather that the wide 5 wheel and drums that we still used. We didnt switch to 4 lug until '68 and we NEVER got disk brakes on beetles (ghias, type 3s, buses yes, but no bugs) that picture of the euro '66 that bus guy posted has disk brakes, you can tell by the rims, they are 4 lug.Lots of differences between U.S. '67s, Euro '67s and even Euro '67 with 1300 and 1500 engine. Basically think of your euro '66 with wide 5 wheels as a U.S. '66 with a '67 decklid and rear apron.

European beetles have many combinations in 67, the 1200 "'A" using the 40 hp 1200, 6 Volt system, the deluxe 1300 drum brake 6 volt system, deluxe 1500 with disc brakes and 12 volts.
Here is a picture of a friends 1967 next to my 65 1200"A". My friends car is deluxe 1300, 6 volt car which she bought new in Hamburg. Both cars were ordered with towel rack bumpers to be able to be imported to the U.S.

I would say your lucky. There aren't many 1967, 1300, 6 volt cars running around, so that makes your car special and worth preserving!

Little update.

Got the front beam, brakes and ebrake all finished.

Still need alignment and install front sway bar. I realized after installing that the bracket for the steering box on the front beam has 2 notches and I'm not sure if I put it on the correct way or not. Have to double check.

I also need some sort of template to cut blinker holes in top of one of the fenders (its a repo)...if not I will figure a way to use my other side and flip it.

Also attempted to lower the rear 2 notches on the outer spline. Only did one side but it doesn't look as low as some others I have seen...bought an angle locator to double check the angle. I don't have short struts yet but do I need to cut the bump stop or remove it at all being that low?

Hopefully just minor things to touch up on to get it road ready and maybe smaller tires in front as it hits the headlights.

I will post pics soon. (I still dont have power from hurricane Sandy last week...Im at work now). It also doesnt help that its dark when I get home...guess I'll get some work done at 7 am.

Its the Lukoil in Park Ridge on Pascack Rd. The guy I bought it from had it stored there for a while and I think the gas station did some work on it.
