First of all, thank you. Even though I am no car show or swap guy we have had the pleasure of attending the flanders show where we were pleased with the opportunity to swap for next to nothing! Along with an incredible car show and great venue, we were more than happy to help contribute (our gate fee's) to the club.
Now onto the Englishtown show that you do not put on, but are a MAJOR help with and a cog in the wheels that keep it alive. Thank you.....and thanks to your club members that act as staff on behalf on Raceway Park to make it happen. Very professional and know where people are suppose to be at all times.
And the reason for this post...... I over heard some club people and a non club person talking and heard something that sort of bothered me. The non-club member was saying how the Central Jersey guys really don't have to deal with this event and almost that they should give up on it. Now, to the club member who said "but we want to keep the vw scene alive and have things to do IN New Jersey" I applaud you sir. 100%, pat on the back, YOU have the spirit and ideas inside of you.
We do need to keep these events alive and close to home or the scene will die. It will be no longer, no events, no gatherings and our passion will be shifted to other places.
A little back round information from the racers point of view. We too, as a group are having this issue with places to race close to New Jersey and the Northeast. Most of the big VW drag events are north carolina, south carolina and virginia. There is no good events up here. That is why for 2013 I have started my own series for racers to keep the scene alive, to have a place to race and support currents events. Just as my passion is for the racing, your passion for gatherings, events, shows, swaps is incredible. Together with the racers banning together and the show/swap guys all showing up, we can keep these events going and help keep it strong. So please, do not bail on the Englishtown show or any other events because we need this. Heck, I walked into Raceway this morning and put $250 cash out of my pocket into the winners put just so they guys had more to race for, in support of them. Next year for the fall event we hope to bring almost 20 racers to Englishtown who have never been there before. So with the Central Jersey guys continuing to support the show end, I will do my part to bring the racers and fans and together....this VW community will keep on living.
Sorry this is long winded but you all deserve a huge pat on the back and a thank you.
Also nice talking with Popeye today a bit in the swap and also Ladder113 (maybe?) and his son Liam who took pictures inside my dads racecar. People like you guys is why we show up. |

The show was weak from both ACVW and watercooled. The date changed really messed things up apparently. The fall show and go has been in October some time, not September. It certainly wasn't the weather. _________________ 1957 Beetle

Hey Marc, I couldn't make the show today but my brother was there and he said the same thing that it was weak on both sides for show and swap. Why'd they change the date anyway? _________________ 1963 Ragtop Bug

The date change was a result of a scheduling conflict at the track and unfortunately resulted in the show falling a weekend apart from two major Northeast VW shows - the AACG and H2O, at least that's what I am chalking up as the cause for the low attendance today.
Spotspeed - I can assure you that as long as Englishtown continues to host an aircooled VW event, CJVWS will give their support in any way possible. Many of our club members regularly talk about keeping the hobby alive and this is a terrific example. If you want to PM me your contact info I would be happy to assist in discussing anything that can be done to try and boost the attendance of racers at the track. I can't make any promises on behalf of Raceway Park, but we are in regular contact with the officials at the track and I would be happy to bring your thoughts and insight to them for consideration. Thank you for all your support! _________________ www.cjvws.com

Thanks Bucky. I actually had the wonderful opportunity to sit in the tower today for about 5 minutes and talk on the microphone with the announcer Andrew. I actually did give your club a small shout out when talking about some of the announcers favorite cars. Afterwards we talked about next year and how we are making Englishtowns falls event one in our series to bring new people and car to the event. Hopefully it works out. |

Thanks for the props spotspeed. I'm glad to hear you feel the same about the VW scene here in Jersey. We do our best to maintain and promote it as much as we can. Despite the low turnout in the show field, we had some truly stunning cars present, the swap was full, and the weather was near perfect. Speaking for our club, we all had a really good time. As Bucky said, as long as E-town has the event, we will be there to support it. please keep us posted about the racers for the fall show. Management is changing at e-town [WP, our main supporter for the last 20+ years, is moving to Texas to work with the NHRA] and we want to do what ever we can to keep things rolling. Maybe we can step up promotion to get a bigger turnout.

Hey Scott. I finally met your old man last weekend at flanders and now can also put a name with a face on the owner / driver of that vintage dragster. Liam says thanks for the few passes down the track.....
Thanks for shooting the breeze with me regarding the racing. I might join you one these days. _________________ www.dasvolks.com

I guess Liam figures if Scott and "Dad" are busy selling parts in the swap meet that someone should be driving the race car. _________________ Glenn

Glad Liem enjoyed sitting in the car. What did his mom have to say about the pictures??
Anytime you want to join us and make a few runs down the track, let me know. We have extra helmets and can point you in the right direction so you are not a total rookie out there. Was nice meeting you on Sunday |
