Does anyone have any good pictures of some westy pressed bumpers? I want to know where they put the hole for the rear tent mount, and where they put the front tent mount. I could fit it up with the tent I suppose, but I want to know where Westfalia liked to put them. I'd like to be able to run my tents this summer... _________________ Insert random important looking club initials here. |

you put steel bumpers on your bus right? just checking... i imagined the full weight of a tent on those fiberglass repro's. wonder if they'd hold.
i think the shape of the front bracket is different, alex in the uk is working on (or is?) reproducing them. give him a shout at www.so23westfalia.com if he doesnt reply here.
i want to see your bus this summer! |

I don't have any close up shots, but here is one that gives you the general idea:
since you are pimping it out with pressed bumpers, do you want to get rid of those ugly later bumpers? I will give them a good home |

i'll get some pics later this morning of the holes on a westy bumper.
and Alex in the UK IS reproducing the early (pressed bumper) tent brackets, and they are slightly different than the later bumper style. they should be done soon. |

Thanks for the replies!
I did put steel bumpers on the bus. C'mon...give me a little more credit than that! I have the old bumpers hanging in the rafters of my garage. I hear you (Lind) will be coming my way this summer? Maybe we could work on something...
I've talked to Alex about the earlier bumper tent mount. I'm assuming the only difference is a slight bend in the base of the mount to better contour the bumper?? I have an extra tent mount that I pulled from a slash bumper that I could tweak just a hair and use that. Thats what I was planning on anyways. I wouldn't think the mount would be any different anywhere else? Not that I don't want to buy one from Alex, but I have a wedding coming up that I need to pay for... yikes!
Looking forward to the pics Hazetguy... thanks! _________________ Insert random important looking club initials here. |

They should be ready in about 2 weeks. Along with the SO-23 cot poles. _________________ The new http://so23westfalia.com now online!

So you won't be wanting any flipseat plaid?
As soon as the SO-23 plaid is done (May im told) i'm thinking of doing a very small run of this, in 2 of the 3 colour styles. _________________ The new http://so23westfalia.com now online!

I just redid my interior with a white/red plaid. Its not original, but looks similar and looks good. Its been needing to get done for far too long now and I had to do it... No more horsehair poking me in the bum!
I would be interested in some of the flipseat plaid, and I know others who would be interested too. We'll just have to delay the wedding...

Which colors? I have 3 different colors and patterns samples taken from flipseats. Mine is a green plaid (63). I also have a predominate yellow with green have seen some in red plaid, even though I thought that was SO 23 color.
So Lind or Jon, who has the original dealer stuff with pics of the different colors available.
Even though the flipseats are 2 new for lind, I am sure he has the lit. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

The little that is left on my '62 appears to to be original and is red/orange, and yellow on white. The bus is SWR/BG and I have seen that color in a brochure or postcard somewhere. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

I have a set of SO-33 seats which have this style on. I'll take a pic tonight of the pattern. Would be interesting to see if they used the same plaid on both models.
Splitpile : If there's enough takers for the small run of cloth - approx 10 van sets minimum i'll get any colour of it made. I do need good unfaded samples to do this. _________________ The new http://so23westfalia.com now online!

I'd be interested in the SO-33 tri color,
Hey flipseat, you should have a nice, unfaded sample for him. |

| I made The front tent braket for my 55 westfalia from a tracing of a 61 westfalia. it is a perfect copy and it works perfect mounted in the ORI WESTFALIA drilled mounting holes in the front. all I did was use some extra ribed flooring mate as a gasket just like westfali did on the flip roof mounts. this made the late braket work on a ribbed bumper. |

I got an extra set of seats in one of my SO-23s. On removing the vinyl covering all had the original plaid intact and in good condition. I think they're from an SO-33 Mosaik as there was the tube fitting they mount on in the van too. They don't quite fit in an SO-23. The spring setup looks the same as the SO-23 though.
Was this plaid used in the flipseat? _________________ The new http://so23westfalia.com now online!

I'll see if I can get a picture of my fabric. It looks pretty new as it hasn't seen much light, but yes those are the colors that came in my 61 SWR/BG flipseat, and other flipseats I've seen. The sample I have is the piece to the left of the jumpseat just under the icebox -- like a cover staped to the cabinetry just hanging there to fill the space. _________________ Insert random important looking club initials here. |

thats the best place to grab a sample since if people re-covered seats they usually left that alone... plus it doesnt get much sun. i have seen that fabric on so-34's for sure.
on an editorial note... that fabric doesnt do much for hiding stains! i'll take red and black plaid any day :) |
