Hi, I just picked up two engines. One was complete but has been sitting for a while and is stuck. The other was under water without heads on it. The wet one turns but I think the cam is broken, the distributor does not turn. What do you use to loosen up a stuck motor? How long should it sit before harping on it? I figured that I would fill the cylinders with Marvel mystery oil? Thank you, Tony[/img]

Pull the spark plugs and stick an air hose in the cylinders to try and blow out any rust or crap that might be in there first before you goop it up with oil.

If you can get the heads off, maybe you can break out the big guns like this:

Thank you, that video was harsh, this is not that bad. I've heard of using ATF and Acetone 1/2 and 1/2. I'm going to use the Marvel first. I vacuumed out everything I could, there was a pistachio shell in one side of the intake. The passenger side rear spark plug was corroded green I guess this valve was open. The other 3 plugs looked normal. So who knows what's inside? I wish I had one of those camera's you can look inside with. Thanks , Tony

dont rush it. or else you can easily scratch the pistons due to the rust in the cylinders. if you have a bore scope, you can determine which cylinders are rusted. you may get lucky, and if its one cylinder, or 1 and 2, or 3 and 4, you can rotate the pistons going towards bdc. that way you can save the pistons. i would remove the cylinders once you freed it. if theres rust, it will be above the compression rings. so moving the pistons towards tdc, will only do harm.

1 part acetone to 3 parts atf. Turn bottom upwards after 24 hrs and let soak another 24. Use socket and long pull bar and try rocking it back and forth. If it starts to move.........keep rocking a little further each time untill you have juice on your sneakers. Visually inspect. Send pictures to Samba for additional advice

If the engine os out of the car just pull the heads off and in 10 minutes you will know the story.

I'll have to pull off the heads and see, you are wright I as being lazy. The other motor I pulled the barrels and pistons off. It would spin then get stuck. I pulled the fuel pump off and it spun pretty good. The distributer was not turning so I pushed the input in fully seated and the motor seems to spin better counter clockwise than clockwise? Is there anyway to inspect the gears on the cam with out splitting the case? I can see somewhat through the fuel pump hole.
