|
|
I'm in the middle of a rebuild/resto on a '77 Puma GTE and the bottom frames that hold the driver/passenger door vent windows are rusted out. Parts are hard to come by so I figure I could make my own....hopefully. The pic below is of the better looking part. Does anybody know if that channel that holds the window is a VW part? I can make the brackets easy enough, but that channel will be hard to do. I am guessing that it is a VW part that was cut/modified.
Anyone? Anyone?? Bueller????
thx!

I'll send you some info tomorrow, might even get you some new parts.
What part of the frame is it?
Any pics off your car? Not to many out there... |

They are based in South Africa and still build the Puma cars, but some parts are different from the original.
I have bought 2 complete doorframes wich took some time to fit them properly but it worked out nice.
Door frames will set you back about 80 dollar eacht, excluding shipping etc.
They do sell lot's of other parts, but like I said they are not allways the same as the original, so ask for pics if you want to be sure.
Writing this reply I also took a quick look at US based purringpuma's and they sell the exact part you are looking for, don't know what they cost...
Please let us know how it turned out, and please, some pics |

The bottom of the quarter glass is Puma only if not mistaken.
The brass window frame from the 1968? Porsche 911 is close and can be used with modification as a replacement door frame for the Puma GTI. Not sure about the GTE.
You will have to cut and re-braze the porsche frame and will possibly need both door frames of the porsche frames just to make a single door frame.
Still it won't look totally original but I think that it will be higher quality than the bent sheet metal frame on the GTi. This is not direct replacement by any means and will require some fabrication.
I am doing this now for the passenger side frame on my car.
I will try and post pictures. |
