Door won't lock

I have a 1974 beetle and the doors wont lock. I can puch the lock down on the inside, but when I close the door it pops back up and won't lock. Any ideas on how to fix this.

It's not a flaw, it'a a feature!

Pull the trigger/ push the button while you close the door. It's so you don't lock yourself out.
