Hi guys!
I'm new on the forums, and even though I've been in the VW world as an enthusiast for space of 5 years or so, some technical topics are just too deep for me.
I own a 1961 Deluxe sedan with what is, in appeareance, a 1500SP, 44 HP engine swap.
So well, I've been taking up some serial numbers from my car parts, just to make sure everything's correct, but at some point, one of the previous owners installed a 1600 engine kit in it. My concern comes to the fuel system and engine block.
The 1500 engine was imported into my country in April 1974, brand new. Serial H1 370 491. According to the serials below I want to know if something remains from that engine, if the numbers match, and if they don't, their tentative origin. The "story" behind my parts according to your knowledge.
The numbers are as follows:
Carb: Solex 30 PICT-2, serial 113 129 025 L
Manifold: 113 129 701 K
And the engine block has this serial underneath: AS41 13 (VW logo) 043 101 A
All because I want to restore my engine to its original specifications. There are a lot of 1600 engines where I live, but the 1500 are pretty rare. Not to mention 1200.
Thank you all in advance!
Greetings from Colombia

Nothing on your engine is original to the car. The 1200 engine parts such as manifold, heads,, etc. are not interchangeable with wither 1500 or 1600 engines.
The 1500 cc cylinders and pistons are nearly impossible to find these days, so it will be much easier to replace the 1600 cylinders, etc. when the time comes. The AS41 designation on the case is not specific to a year. I have an early 70's case and a '74 case - both have AS41 on them. |

Thank you for your reply!
As I stated before, the 1200 engine was entirely replaced by a brand new (back then) 1500 SP engine in 1974. Things have gone a little bit messed up in my country since then, so it's hard to find an engine with its original parts.
I'm pretty sure none of the parts match with the original 1961 engine, but I want to make sure if them match with the 1500 1974 engine at least. |
