| My brakes and clutch both work fine. About 2 weeks ago I had the clutch master cylinder replaced, and the system bled. Today, something new started. When I have the clutch all the way in and push in or release the brakes, I can feel a slight jerky movement of the clutch pedal. I know both systems operate on the same hydraulic system, so what's going on here? |

It's not the same hydraulic system. it's the same reservoir. And the clutch supply nipple is half way up, so a clutch leak will not deplete th brake supply.
Perhaps there is some mechanical interference with the pedals?

Recently my van started doing exactly that. I feel that the brake pedal move when I engage the clutch, and sometime I hear a faint "thud" noise somewhere in the rear when I touch the clutch. My mechanic will bleed the whole system next week (or when he has the time) and will have a close look. I will report back for the result.

Revived!! I am having this problem. When I have clutch depressed and coming to a stop. I can feel some movement caused by using the brakes.
I have not looked yet-but I figure it will need to come out and be assessed.
What I am wondering is- Has anyone ever had this problem, and did it leave you stranded?
I worried that something will break and leave me without clutch, or brakes _________________ 86' Wolfsburg weekender 2.1, 4spd, , merian brown |

Is it the two pedals moving on a common shaft that you're feeling? The more worn they are, the greater the effect. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

I will look under at the pedals today. If it is a common shaft that is most likely the problem- I hope. At 294k on chassis i'm sure it's worn. I just hope nothing is broken as I have a trip planned 3 wks out.
I noticed I can feel a strange movement when using clutch and just resting foot on brake pedal. I hope whatever parts it is, that it will be an easy fix.
In the 7 mths I've owned van, it seems I work on it every 3-400 miles of driving _________________ 86' Wolfsburg weekender 2.1, 4spd, , merian brown |

It has almost 300,000 miles on it. Most other cars are in the junkyard by that point. You can either pull the van off the road and do basically a frame off restore, no frame though, or you can do it the way you have been as things come up. Each way, has its merits. Eventually your way, you will have a completely restored vanagon. We all have been there in some form. It is the nature of driving antiques. |
