|
|
Just got a 79 Westy deluxe with the stove. My long time goto, Parish Heacock, now American Modern, who I have used for ten years and three VWs, wouldn't even give me the time of day when they heard propane stove. Really pissed me off.
My regular auto ins. is covering, but I could buy a Hebmuller with what they charging every month, 147.00.
Does anybody have a good, understanding, ins. comp., formally Parish Heacock, that they use and are satisfied with? Or is this the price of the Westy?
BTW This would be NY State.

Beetlepete:
Here in AZ, we insure our pristine restored 78 CEII Westfalia with State Farm. It is a "collector" agreed value policy with the following conditions:
a) bus must be garaged
b) I must furnish updated appraisal annually
c) must be licensed as an historical vehicle
When initially shopping insurance after the appraisal, the "traditional" collector insurers would not insure it because we wanted to stay in RV parks on occasion. Much to my surprise at the time, a mainstrain insurer provided a policy that the botique insurers would not. State Farm amended the policy at my request, explicitly stating that I could use the bus to stay in RV parks for short periods (as opposed to using it for residency).

American Banker's in FL underwrites some different policies now that went absent after the 2008 crash so more and more companies are offering collectors policies that make sense for bus owners. The policy we have is thru American Collectors. It is a $1000 deductible, allows daily use - which is what camping is considered. The cost is about $400 a year and it is agreed value. Requires garaging and it requires that the owner have one other car for any other drivers on their main policy as the bus is on its own policy. So our main insurance company insures two cars since we have two drivers, and the bus is on its own policy thru American Collectors. We used to be with American Modern but they do not allow any daily use. Regardless, anyone with a VW bus is nuts to leave it unattended in this day and age. People steel hubcaps and emblems then sell them to get spare change. _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |

I drive my bus every day so I don't have collector plates. I have full coverage, but my State Farm agent said without an aprasial on file, I would be screwed! It's worth the fee if you end up with a total loss or your bus ends up in Mexico down here. |

Thanks all. Was on another thread. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6583094#6583094.
Went through and ended up with Grundyworldwide. $14K agreed value, 100K base policy, restictions:
mileage
Garaged
Photos
separate daily driver.
Total 140 per year, and I get to camp. They were very nice, polite, and fast.
In NY Antique status is hard, basically needs to be close to 100 point, no pavement, no use, no fun.
My westy is not pristine, yet!!!!
I also have State Farm for everything, but they would do collector OR appraised value in NY so it would cost 1300 a year. Which is what I am paying until Grundy kicks in. Thanks for the posts _________________ Beetlepete
