| have looked at some of the posts already on here about this topic i am looking to install my headliner and was wanting to do some research on the matter, my main thing is how do you install it round the edges with no beading |

Mr. Badassratbus, I assume the upholstry shop uses a spray-on adhesive just for this purpose.
If you have never installed a headliner before, I would suggest taking it to an experienced installer.
Just my .02....

i did my own. i hadn't done one before. it came out OK. far from perfect but good enough for me. i can tell you it about drove me insane. an extra set of hands will definitely help. if not available get a load of those squeezy heavy duty paper clip thangs. i thought of that far too late in the game.
don't be shy with the spray adhesive. i think i used 3M super90.

Even if you do have help, those clips are a lifesaver. Clothespins work pretty well, too. Make sure you hands are spotless when you do this. If they aren't, you will find out why this is important!
And make sure that whatever you use to remove the glue you sprayed where you didn't need it is compatible with your paint. It doesn't matter how careful you are. You WILL get glue where you didn't want it!

usually naptha aka rubber cement thinner will not hurt the paint but best to check first.

I've done several headliners now, and this stuff does not give out like the 3m stuff. Wonderful product. Three cans will do the whole job. Good luck.

x2!! Plus you get glue on your fingers, then you better STOP, wash and proceed. If you don't then you get junk on your hands, which transfers to the wrong side of the headliner.
Man, never again!! I would easily pay $1500-2000 to have some pro do it and make it look perfect, money well spent!
Hands down the worst thing ever do to in a bus. Especially if your shop/garage never gets warmer than 15 degrees C. And the better the glue, well, the worse AND better it is. Having extra hands is nice, but extra hands means, well more dirt transfer, more glue and more frustration!

I got a cheap paint gun (bottom cup) and used DAP Weldwood Contact Adheasive from the upholstry store. You can keep the glue in the gun and as long as it is sealed tight it won't dry in your gun. They also have Cosmoline for clean up. Without the beading there will be stress at the gap and the glue could give way in the future. However the OG beading is a pain in the ass. They sell a smaller vinyl beading in a few colors at the upholstry store. Good luck, you can do it!

I've done two by myself. Both deluxes with sunroofs. One stock vinyl and one tweed. (Don't use tweed for a bus headliner ever!) Anyway, just start at the front and go slow. Pull it tight,realign, take it down, repeat till you are done and ready for the looney bin. As stated before, good glue and clean hands is the key. Good luck and no matter how bad you think it turned out, number one it's up and number two most folks won't even notice what you see.

This is the only glue to use when it comes to a headliner. I live in South florida where it is hot and humid, and this stuff stands the test of time. To spray it, get a cheap $20 Harbor Freight spray gun. Keep the gun sealed and it will last for years in the gun. Mineral spirits cleans this glue up, and won't hurt your paint or headliner. Cost $50 a gallon and will do about 10-12 headlines in a bus.
Make sure to wear latex gloves. I would wear two pairs, so when the first layer got dirty, I'd be able to change quickly when needed.

This is a great technique. I do this at work all the time when dealing with something fairly messy. I have found, when wearing more than a few at a time, that it is troublesome getting the next set off. To remedy that I use masking tape on the inside of my forearm onto each glove, making a tab to grab. That way you simply need to follow the tape to just grab the outside glove, Like tearaway visors on a helmet.

The thing about installing a headliner is that the first time you do it it will not be perfect. It takes experience and a talent for working with material to get it right. If you can accept that then go for it. If you want perfection hire an expert if you can find one in your area.

| some handy tips here cheers, what is the method for fixing with the glue round the edges, i cannot afford to pay someone to do it and i want to say that i did everything myself on my bus apart from trim the seats |
