This is the finished product, scroll down to see the last year of on and off work
This was the excitement finding the ad oct 22nd
the following day
some of the goodies that came with
starting to strip off the brown paint
getting it verified with winnie!
so this chassis had the tunnel cut out before I purchased it, ended up going with a thicker gauge metal and seam welding it in, then seam sealing it and painting
I picked up a 1600 with an exhaust (I had ideas for the exhaust) slapped in a new clutch while I was there from another project
starting to get the chassis together
new everything, brakes/lines/fuel lines/master/steering box/balljoints/tierods etc. when your this deep just dive in right?
cleaned up everything out back, along with new brakes/ebrake cables fuel line/filter etc.
bought a muffler and some pipe to kind of replicate the idea of a sidewinder
ok body on and lets start the spaghetti (the rebel harness actual was really smooth and I hate wiring)
starting to button things up here, new mechanical gauge. speedo cable etc. ( still need to sort out wipers) but the project came with a box that said (dune buggy carpet) was a really nice surprise to find a custom made snap in carpet
had the wheels powdercoated
went with bfg km3 tires
31x10.15 rear
28x9.5x14 front (these are sxs tires not car tires) im aware of the potential dangers with these. I wanted the car to have matching tires front and rear and I wanted these sizes...
ok heres a pic of the tires on and a soft top that also came with the buggy. (soft top is kind of brittle tho so its just drapped over the bows in this pic to get it relaxed a little in the sun. (it really needs to get duplicated at an upholstery shop I doubt I will run it as is)
I refinished the dietz 820s and gave the rings a polish
after this I didnt really document it too much but I have about 30 hours of wetsanding and buffing to get the gelcoat to look half decent.
I can ad some more photos as I find them but I figured ppl would enjoy seeing the build I love a good build thread
A special thanks to the manx club forum on facebook and nelson sparks for a ton a valuable information and help along the way, and of course Winnie for the help with authenticating it, and everyone elses builds and pictures Ive looked at along the way for motivation!
ps if anyone has a spare ghia light I need a 2nd one to finish the front end

Winnie still performs the Certifications herself, and is re-structuring/updating the Registry. You can find her on Facebook. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Everyone is gifted. Some just do not open the package.
Looks like it was painted with a live chicken, polished with a brick and buffed with a pine cone |
