hello all!
I have a question, does any here know of or have done a Porsche 914 with diesel motor from say a Jetta?, and if so can you show me pics? weblinks?
I only ask because the idea of having a roadster with a diesel would be, to me at least, a cool idea. I know there are several Subaru conversion from a 2.0 boxer 4 to a 3.0 boxer 6, and everything in between.
there is a website I found recently that sells Subaru Diesel motor the 80's Vanagons but there nothing on how to drop in a 914. ( http://www.smallcar.com/index.php?dispatch=pages.view&page_id=61 )
thanks for the help. |

It's something I have always wanted to do. I have a 914 with no motor.
They way to do it is get a passat b5 tranny and a pre 04 1.9 tdi. You can get some good power out of them.
There are a few who have done the 1.8t with this setup. 1.9 would be the same.
Just takes time and lots of money! |

The gas Rabbit/Jetta/Golf engine will fit in the space fine. Using the Passat longitudinal trans-axle saves $500 to $700 on an adapter. You will need to figure out a way to shift it also how to connect the trans output CV flanges to the 914 hubs. I understand that Sway-a-Way will build custom length axles so maybe you could get some with Passat splines on one end and 914 splines on the other. None of these things are insurmountable. Just part of the experience.
I have imagined doing this myself. _________________ BIGMIKEY

yeah, guys have done the 1.8/2.0T... i would think the 1.9 would fit as well...
shifting is just a cable shift. look it up on google, there are a few who have done the 901 trans. using the B5 passat trans would make the car modern. the 901 tras is crap. side shift or tail. its just old...
and yes, the dog bones is the tricky part...
if somebody wants to fund my build ill attempt it!!! i have a 71 with no motor!!!!
or, if you really want a diesel you can get the junk vanagon diesel and just bolt it up.... it would be sooo slow. |
