{1975 bay window}
So I installed a new steering coupler replaced the ground wire at the coupler cleaned all the contacts point for that wire. Put it all back together and no horn. Checked the horn button everything looks good cleaned it just because.
I have 12.0 volts to the positive side of the horn with the ignition on and no volts when ignition is off.
It is possible the horn went out before the steering coupler I haven’t used it in months. Could the horn have just died?

Hook up power to one side, ground to the other. Listen for sound. If no sound, the horn is bad. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

With ignition on there is 12 volts I hooked up a ground wire to frame and no horn, so dead horn? _________________ 1975 Bay Window {Big Red} |

Do you still have 12v to the one terminal when you have the other one grounded? If so, yes it is probably a bad horn. You should at least clean both connections on the horn well before totally giving up on it. |

Not to highjack your thread but:
I have a similar problem with my horn, when I got my bus the horn was operated via a push button on the dash. I have discovered that the problem is that the ground wire is not connected to the steering coupler and if I touch one of the bolts with the wire, the horn button on the wheel works well, BUT I have no idea how to connect the ground wire to the steering coupler, if I just attack it to one of the bolts it will get torn appart when turning. Could I be missing a part down by the coupler?
Can someone provide a picture of how the ground is attached to the coupler please?

A surefire way to test the horn is to take it off (you don't have to) and apply 12 volts to it directly from the battery. If it yelps your problems are elsewhere. That's where I always start before wasting time going over everything else. _________________ air-cooled or nothing for me

Excellent (sortof), a 74 can have 2 different horn systems, is your wiper and signal switch in a separate metallic housing from the ignition switch?, or is everything covered by one singular plastic shroud? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Separate housing. Here's a picture. (BTW, you can see the push button for the current horn )
