Hi All, new to the Beetle side of the Samba.
Came across this 66 on FB and figured I’d go see it since it’s the same year as my Bus. 1 repaint, og interior is under the seat covers in amazing condition.
Made the deal and towed it home. Little background it came out of an estate sale in Pa in 2021 where it had been in the original owners barn since 2000. A local garage near the estate sale got it back on the road from the owner I got it from. All the usual, whole front end went through. Brakes, cleaned and sealed gas tank.
When I got it last week it had been sitting for a year, I went to remove the negative cable to throw a new battery in and the ground connection broke. Threw a new cable on and battery, turned the key and the 1300 fired right up. Sounds good.
My current plans, go through the whole brake system before I take it on the road. Replace the engine to rear seal. And get my right front turn signal working. Replaced all fuel lines, pictures show first time I saw it.
My dad helping me out tow baring it home. _________________ 66 SO42 L87

Nice car I did a lot of miles years ago in a 66. I always liked the 1300 mated with the stock transmission of a 66 as it seemed geared well to the power of the 1300. .on the highway it never seemed real comfortable over 65, but around town fine. Best of luck with it. |

As of right now, get it mechanically sound and enjoy it. A group of us go camping in my bus every year, so we'll tag the beetle along as well now.
The color is confusing me, it's definitely been repainted but I don't see an old re-paint going the lengths to remove everything in the interior, etc for paint. I can't find any overspray inside which makes me question what color is this car? _________________ 66 SO42 L87

The color of the dash and interior jambs appear to be "Sea Sand", an original factory 1966 color. I can't tell from your photo if the outside was repainted the same color, or something "close"? _________________ 1967 VW Convertible, owned 35 years.

If you haven't already done it, I would suggest you remove the running boards and check whether the garbage buildup is just old leaves or corrosion.
It's a common place for the running board or the heater channel to start rotting away. A coat of anti-rust would help either way to help seal off that area. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery

Nice unmolested Beetle. You likely have a carburetor/ distributor mismatch. It’ll run but you can do better with a factory match. _________________ Roads Scholar

Thanks! That makes sense now, I was overlooking that color.

Good idea! I'll be back with the bug later this weekend and will tackle that. I think there's some bondo going on in there but if it's not too bad I may cut out and patch. I've done rockers on buses, should be able to figure this one out.

Pretty sure the carb is 30PICT/1 - will check distributor once I'm back in town. Do you know what the part number should be? I'm finding conflicting answers.

Stock distributor for a 66 or 67 bug should be a 113-905--205k or L. From your picture that may be it. |

Definitely a diamond in the rough, super nice!
Needs the hose clamps on the fresh air tubes and the lower seals for those.
Do get a proper rebuildable fuel pump soonest. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Thanks! Always appreciate your advice on my Split Bus thread too. I've added the seals on the fresh air tubes. Rebuilding a square top fuel pump next week for the Beetle. _________________ 66 SO42 L87
