I'm putting my engine together, but the last time I had had a ACVW engine apart was when Bush was president... Bush Senior, not Dubbya... so I've forgotten a few things in the 20 years since I've done it last.

Is there a spec for how far the flat tang on the oil pump drive gear needs to engage the slot in the cam?
The slot in the cam is about .335" deep and the tang on the gear is about .280" before it starts to taper wider. Mine engages .165" how it is right now, is that fine, or do I need to press the shaft out of the gear a bit more?

Also, in the gasket kit there were 6 black o-rings that look like they go around the 6 large center case studs, correct? The only reason I ask I because I could have sworn when I pulled it apart a week ago that there were only 4 o-rings, and that the center pair of studs didn't have any.... Do all 6 get the o-rings?

Last question: There are also 6 smaller black o-rings in the kit... they look like they're about the size to slip over an 8mm stud or something... where do they go?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Oil pump engagement should be .240" - .260" Use all 6 main stud O-rings. 4 small O-rings go on the studs under the rocker arms.

If the case is shuffled pinned then you only use 4 orings on the large case studs. The two middle studs will have a dowel sleeve if the case has been shuffle pinned, no orings will go there.

Thanks for the info guys. Yes, my center two studs have dowels, so that explains then why they didn't have the o-rings when I took it apart.

I've used that sticky a few times, it comes in handy since most gasket kits come with one of everything for every year....

No one like to finish an engine and discover the
IKEA bag" (bag full of misc parts that you have no idea where it goes to after a project is complete..) Laughing
