|
|
My bus was driving fine up until yesterday when it stalled getting off of the freeway, ever since then she won't idle on her own. I have a 1970 1600DP with solex 34 pict/3
Things that I have already checked:
-Point gap is correct
-automatic choke is getting power from coil and functioning properly
-no apparent vacuum leak at the intake manifold (spayed with starter fluid) and I don't have vacuum assist booster brakes
-My electromagnetic idle cutoff clicks when given power
-I changed the fuel filter just to be on the safe side
-I tried cover the top of my carb at a high RPM to try and force any clogged debris there may have been in one of the jets, but to no avail
The bus seems to drive fine other then at idle, is it safe to assume that I've got a clogged jet? I've never had to take my carb apart and wanted to make sure that I had exhausted all other options, and ask for some tips if it does indeed seem to be the next logical step...
Thanks in advance
(oh and I do have a Bentley service manual) |

I'd dismantle the carb and clean it. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

| Do I need to dismantle the whole thing or am I only looking to clean the idle and perhaps the main jets? should I pick up that carb bath stuff i've seen at the auto parts stores? |

| Start with the idle jet and whatever vacuum caps you might have. |

Buy a rebuild kit. Then follow the complete excellent detailed instructions in your service manual. That's what it's for.
The other option is just muddle through it and keep saying "maybe". _________________ 71 Superbug

I agree, do the whole thing or the next piece of loose shit floating around in there will be back in one of the idle jets next week or maybe next month and likely in heavy traffic or the middle of a big bridge during rush hour, it's a good idea to flush a quart of gas into a soda bottle using the starter before reinstalling that spiffy new carb too incase there's more crap lurking in the lines. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

| Cracked Rotor? If you have an aftermarket rotor, it can be the cause. |
