I am trying to hook up the wiper motor on my zwitter (why I don't know).

The motor has the ground in the center between two screw terminals marked "S" and the other marked "+". My wiring diagram shows two wires coming out of the switch, one from each side of the switch therefore one is always "hot" or "live". The wiring diagram does not show which wire from the switch goes to which terminal on the motor. I assume that it is a self canceling motor and the wire from the dead side of the switch activates a solenoid / points, that close the circuit which runs the motor. Can anyone tell me which wire goes where?

From this post
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=243062&highlight=wiper+wiring

From the motor there is a wire (black w/lilac rings) that goes to the switched terminal on the switch.

From the motor there is a solid black wire that goes to terminal 30 at the switch, then at the same terminal 30 on the switch there is another wire, this one gray and black that goes up to the fuse box near the left headlight and goes to the same fuse as the horn.

The solid black wire from the motor to the switch is the park wire.
The last wire on the motor (center) is only 6" long and it attached to an eyelet / ground at the wiper motor's mounting bolt on the cowl.

Maybe this helps:

I found more:

The wire from the permanent live side of the switch goes to S terminal in the motor, and then from the + side of the motor back to the switch.

I know my motor parks itself, even if I turn it off half way through its cycle.
Here's my switch and motor. sorry for the blurry pic, but the black/red wire is on top, and on the left (passenger) side of the switch.

Strangest thing, I had it apart last winter, cleaned and bench tested it and the motor ran fine. Hooked up like above and still nothing. Out of curiosity I turned the switch on then twisted the motor, it clicked and ran. Now it runs just fine. Something must have gotten stuck when I reassembled it, but all is good now. Although I doubt I will ever need to use them Very Happy

That rings a bell with me Bill, I tested mine and when I put it in, I think nothing at first. Maybe it gets confused when not parked and you pull the power while testing it. Mine is fine now too. (although park on the driver side instead of the middle) getting used to the look) Wink

I've run into a problem with my wiper motor. Turned it on, and rather than running normally, it tried to go the opposite direction. Quickly turned it off and thought to come back and find out why the next day. Tried to turn it on, nothing. Tried to start the car, nothing. Hmmm. Charged the battery, car started ok, but still no wipers. I was thinking a short? When for a drive, fire extinguisher in hand, and all seems ok. Parked, popped the hood to try and remove the wiper motor, but it was really hot! Hmmm again. Bruce thought the wiper post might have gone past the stop, and is trying to run back to its stopping place. Now, that makes sense as even when the wiper motor is turned off, it still tries to park itself. Disconnected the wires from the switch, took the ground off the battery, and will pull it apart to see what's going on. Anyone else have a similar problem?
thanks
Brian
