I would like to remove one of my intake studs in the head-single port 40 hp. Can I double nut it to turn it out to install a new one? The one in there now is not stripped, but the nut does not go on easy until it's about halfway down.

Thanks

Yep, it can be easily replaced with the double nut method. You could also run a die over the stud to clean up those first few threads.

Thanks. Will attempt the double nut method to turn it out with a small 10mm boxin wrench, but will stop if I don't get some movement. Don't want to break it.

The engine is in the car-not a lot of room. Do they make a die without the the arms on it?

That's the die holder. Some dies are hexagonal so you can use a wrench. Remember, you're cleaning up the bad threads, not threading metal rod.

So I advise also to use a die to clean up the threads, absolutely. By the way, the intake manifold threads are 6.0 mm x 1.00 mm.

Many Thanks to you both,

Sigh of relief here.
Cleaning up the threads is what I'll do. I did pull up some photos of die's and saw they were a size I could work with. Have not used one in years and remembered only the holder. Might be able to turn it down by hand.
