Hey all, this question is about header temps, not exhaust gas temps. So, that said:

What temps are you measuring on the header pipes and/or muffler tip?

On a normal running Beetle motor at idle measured with my IR thermometer, I typically see around 275F-325F an inch or so from the head flange and around 175F-225F where the heat exchanger goes into the muffler. I have no idea about the tips since that tells me all I need to know. . . Wink
