"1976"? Unlikely- body and interior details point to a '65 German-built Beetle:
-Front fender headlamp shape thru '66
-Engine lid lic. plate light housing and catch for a '65; could be a '66 if the "1300" emblem is there, or has holes for it
-5-lug wheels thru '67
-Bumper style thru '67
-No center air vent for windshield in dashboard (thru '65)
-Large side window size (as of '65)
-Interim rear window size ('65 thru '71)
-Vent window style has rearward-tilted rear frame (as of '65)
-Door release handle as of '67 though with "standard" (non-chromed) surround frame, indicating a '67 passenger side door

The city "Cagayan de Oro" is not in the US. If it's either Mexican or Central/South American, Beetles built either in Mexico or Brazil have many variations/deviations in the body details I mentioned above; though I doubt that the early-style bumpers were still utilized in those country's plants in '76.

You can examine the new car brochures as well as Owner's Manuals in the "Archives- Literature" and the "Technical" tabs along the header of this forum to try to find Mex or Brazil-built models. Then you can more closely narrow down the year, of if the Beetle does actually visually match a new '76.

In addition he engine number appears to somewhat crudely hand stamped like it was added after the fact. Could be a replacement case with no numbers and someone added later.

Being that it has 4 lug wheels, maybe a pan swap from a 1976 bug?

thanks again for the feedback.
i’m so liking the look.
yes, the engine kindly ‘off’ stamped.
the owner has no history re: engine rebuilt.
my plan is to get this and just lowered it.

Looks like a mix of body parts? I was thinking 66 until the 4 lugs where mentioned. Was that 67 they started being used? If 67, front fenders would be wrong along with the rear lid (looks like anyway).

I'm still sticking with 66.

Or is the seller dyslexic. 67-76?

Is it swing axle or IRS?
