|
|
Does anyone make a correct headliner for a '64 sunroof? The original light gray headliner has both printed (non perforated) and punched dots. The sunroof cover also has a heat seam down the middle of it. I haven't been able to find a reproduction headliner that has those details.
I bought a headliner from Wolfsburg West and while the quality of the materials is fine, it's not "correct"- missing the printed dots and was also stitched instead of head seamed on the sunroof cover. My car is OG paint and matching numbers so I'd like to go back as correct as possible. _________________ Strive for perfection in everything. Take the best that exist and make it better. I think the problem you're facing is that there's not enough demand yet for completely accurate parts for that model that late. Split buses get that sort of attention, early bugs are getting there, and lowlight Ghias are getting there... Give it a few years or take the initiative and you might be able to find what you're looking for. Just the state of the hobby... Buy the closest that's available now, and support those that introduce quality and accurate products when they do. If everyone were to do that, maybe EMPI would go away or get better... _________________ Jason Hopper

Exactly.
Not available probably unless you can go back to 1964. |

You're right, it would be easier to do a correct restoration on an earlier car. The demand for those parts just isn't there, 99.9% don't care about those kind if details and close is good enough. '64 seat cover material isn't available at reasonable prices since its not reproduced. $250 a yard is crazy! The correct color running board mats and fender beading aren't reproduced either. TMI door panels are close but aren't available in the right color for a bahama blue '64, and the piping around the edge is wrong. I haven't checked with SMS Upholstery yet; they do have NOS material for my '66 Chevy C10 and have the ability to make factory style heat seams. Hopefully they'll have the headliner material and can make the heat seamed sunroof cover. _________________ Strive for perfection in everything. Take the best that exist and make it better. Thats the problem I was facing, finding the correct printed dot material. Someone posted a link on here awhile ago of a company that still makes it. I know I saved the website I just have to find it. I dont understand why TMI or whoever doesnt make it the correct way, I mean in reality its not that hard. Have you called Lenny Copp to see if he has NOS or a contact for the material? I had thought about getting the non-perforated material and laying a perforated material over it and spraying vinyl dye on it to get the dots. It just may work. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

Bumping an old thread here, did you find the link and if so would you be able to share it if they are still making them? Thanks! |
