ok, so I'm under the car replacing the front brake hoses. Starting on the driver side, I unscrew the 12mm nut on the hard line (on the inside of the holding bracket. I thought it would then just slip through the bracket, but it doesn't. So there is now a 17mm nut on the outside of the bracket that is on the rubber hose. When I turn that 17mm nut, the hose just binds up and it doesn't look like it threading out at all. Is it threaded into that bracket? Should it just pull out, or thread out, is there something I need to hold while turning that 17mm nut? What am I doing wrong?

oh ya, its a 69 with a dual master cylinder

second issue....

how the hell do you get a wrench around the nut that secures the hose to the brake plate? I can get my 13mm open end on it just enough to turn it about 1mm, but not enough to break it loose? Maybe once I get the hose off the inside bracket, where it hooks to the hard line, I can then get a box end on it. How do ya'll do it?

two things: There's a clamp that holds the hose to the bracket where the rubber hose screws into the metal line. You have to use a screwdriver/pliers and a little finagling to slide the clamp off and then the hose just pulls out. As far as what wrench to use on the brake line going into the wheel cylinder, you need a line wrench. It looks like a box end but has a slot cut into it to get it onto the line without having to pass it over either end first. Go to Sears and ask for one in the right size. They'll know what you're talking about hopefully.

It takes two brake line wrenches. One to hold the other to turn. If you continue to use regular open end wrenches you may round off the lines.

Make sure you get the clip off...than remove the hard line by holding the 17mm nut on the brake line and removing the opposite side. After this the rubber hose can be removed from the wheel cylinder.

If you are having problems the metal line end is proboably frozen to the brake line...if this is the case you are going to have to replace the hardlines also.

Here is a picture showing the clip we are refering to...it holds the rubber line to the backet on the pan.

I'm not 100% clear about where the clip is thats holding the rubber hose to the bracket, but I'll take a look at it and fiddle around till I see what your all talking about.

Oh yeah I've seen those in the gallery. I love to see everything so clean like that. Looks like you can eat off it.

Dayzwalker they are easy to spot you will see tomorrow. They are the same style of clips that hold a keyhole in your toolbox or your older American car door locks.
