Picked this bug up in a trade. Going to take the pan off and the heater channels and replace them. I will be posting pic of the build in hopes of getting tips and "how to" help along the way. Thanks

PostPosted: Fri Jan 03, 2014 1:32 pm    Post subject: Engine Problems Reply with quote

The bug came with an extra engine and trans axle. Looking at the engine code it looks like the extra engine is the og engine. I started to take the long block apart and it looks like it was rebuilt. Super clean, no cracks in the heads, almost no wear on the lifters, pistons are clean and rings new. The problem I am having is I can not turn the pulley. Any Ideas why? Should I split the case and look inside?

Here is a better shot of the pistons. Can anyone tell me what kind of head this is? Is it stock or aftermarket?

Well I took a look at the block this morning and there isn't a dist drive gear in the block right now and it still won't turn freely. Any ideas?
Thanks

It doesn't appear you have a flywheel attached. Crank may need to be pushed toward flywheel side to turn.

just split it and find out what it is, looks like someone spent the cash on the parts but made an error in assembly. could be rod bearings not sized to crank correctly or an error on the install. get rid of that red paint, so split the case and hopefully put it back together with nothing more than a gasket set and ability. great car, the cash will flow one direction for awhile so be prepared.
