So, you didnt end up mailing him a check, right? You didn't loose any money... It sounds weird someone "offered" more then he was asking... |

Maybe the seller told the other guy he had a deal pending and the other guy really wanted it so he ups the ante. |

Do you know how many times I have heard "I'm sending the money today" and It never showed?
I had some guy from Australia yanking my chain for 3 weeks on a Empi wheel I had. I finally sold it to a guy who paypal'd me.
Unless I know who you are for sure I don't hold anything anymore for more than a few days if I feel like it. I usually tell the buyer that if there's no payment in my mailbox in 4 days they are SOL. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

As much as some people hate eBay, at least stuff like this doesn't happen on those auctions. It's very straight forward who the winner is. |

I am not worried yet though 2 more weeks and I will |

I've only bought something on ebay twice. Both times before I bid I sent the seller an email pinning him down on payment notification and shipping times.
I felt like that was the only real way to find out if the sellers were going to be ligit. If they didn't live up to the agreed up times, it would be easier to get PayPal to see the transaction as fraudulent. _________________ '73 Standard Beetle |

I've been yanked around here a lot more than on ebay. I only got screwed once on ebay, though I did end up getting my money back. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Communication is the key to EVERYTHING when dealing on the web.
I'd sold all of the EFI parts from our '79 bus to a guy back east. This was a few weeks ago... He'd expected them right around thanksgiving, but I'd gotten a call from the so-called mechanic saying that he had more of the parts from when he converted it to a carb setup. I emailed my buyer and let him know that shipping was going to be delayed, and sent him another email today letting him know of the extra parts I got, and that I'd be fed-exing them tomorrow. I've found that people never seem to get antsy as long they you keep them informed and stay in touch. There's no such thing as TOO MUCH communication when you're doing a money deal with someone, or even a trade.

Yes, it is a "bigie". Now I know if you advertise something on Samba and I contact you and agree to buy it for the price we agree on that you cannot be trusted. I can expect you to email me if someone makes you a better offer. So you should just list things as an auction and admit you will sell for the highest price. But, wait then how could I trust that I had the highest price and that you would honor that? I couldn't and wouldn't because you have just proven you can't be trusted. That has happened to me twice on here. People that need the part will offer more to get it. You made a deal and then you sold it out from under the guy you made the deal with. That is dishonest, sux, and has huge ethics issues. But, in this day and age, if you email someone and put it all in writing then you have just commited internet fraud. What ever happened to a man's word is his bond? Where did ethics go? That goes for both sides. Buyer and seller, just do what the hell you say you are going to do and communicate it. Then there will be no issues. Ok I just put up my soap box....... _________________ It's Grvlguy! |

I was taught that in business dealings it's not a done deal till the money changes hands, until then it's kinda like counting your chickens before the eggs hatch. . AFTER the money changes hands you have to do everything possible to hold up your end of the deal and deliver the goods. I have lost stuff on this site the same way but have yet to get outright ripped off by recieving no product and therefore consider myself lucky. |
